Milk Thistle: Nature’s support for liver disease

Liver disease (including cirrhosis) is one of the most common health problems in older dogs. It can damage all functions of the dog’s liver, with very harmful effects on their health.

Canine Milk Thistle is a potent herbal tonic, a well-known supplement for liver disease in both humans and dogs. It helps a wide variety of dog liver diseases, and is also helpful for digestive disorders.

The active ingredients in Canine Milk Thistle are known collectively as silymarin. These ingredients:

  • Help maintain the health of your dog’s liver
  • Scavenge for harmful free radicals
  • Help guard against toxins trying to bind to the dog’s liver
  • Support the stability of liver membranes

Milk thistle is excellent health support when your dog isn't feeling well, to support his liver and help his recovery. As an anti-oxidant, silymarin is even more effective than vitamin E. It also helps support the production of new liver cells in dogs.

Canine Milk Thistle is useful health support when being treated with things like:

  • Chemotherapy drugs
  • Chemical heartworm medications
  • Antibiotics
  • Corticosteroids

An all natural, herbal product, milk thistle is gentle enough for long-term use.

Our customers have the last word…
“My dog Bingo has had a bad liver for a while now, probably from polluted water. We tried quite a few things to get him back to health but nothing seemed to work. Our vet is great and does everything he can. We decided to try something that wasn't full of chemicals, so went on the internet looking for a natural supplement. Luckily, we landed on your site and found Milk Thistle. It was within our price range, so we got it. The results were really great. Bingo reacted well to it, his liver condition has gradually improved and he has more energy than he has had for ages! Thank you for your help”

 Milk Thistle for Dogs

"My dog, George is so much better on it. I really think that the Milk Thistle has helped with that immensely. He has never had the appetite that he now has. He is a runt sheltie and I used to have to almost beg him to eat; to hand feed him. He now relishes his meals and loves treats as well. He now is a slim 13 + lbs. Shelties normally weigh between 20 - 25 lbs. He is doing GREAT! I'm so glad I found you online!"

Our 14 yo shih-tzu was diagnosed with liver disease based on high liver enzymes. The vet wanted to do invasive testing after an ultrasound. My research pointed me to Milk Thistle and my dog is acting 10 years younger. she has more energy, etc.

Comments about NHV Milk Thistle for Dog Liver Disease:

I got this for my 12 year old Lab who started out with severe shaking, loss of appetite and weakness. We didn't know what was wrong with her, took her to the vet and were told she probably wouldn't live longer than a week. This diagnosis was without any kind of bloodwork, one radiograph (that didn't even come near her liver) and palpations. We were sent home with some serious painkillers for her, and that was that. We had been feeding her a couple of rawhide "treats" every day (for years...) and I stopped that immediately. They were made in China and I did a bunch of internet research and decided they might be contributing to whatever was wrong with her. She had a great diet (high quality food) and good water her whole life, so I suspected it was the chewies. Anyway, I ordered some milk thistle from here and we started adding it to her food. She perked up the first day, but we think the painkillers might have been at work then...we gradually got her off the painkillers while keeping her on the milk thistle. We are also giving her Glucosamine and MSM, a digestive enzyme and a super probiotic along with the milk thistle, and a month later she is doing very well. She even breaks into a little run when we go for walks now, and wants to play more. She's doing much, much better, and I am glad I found this site. Milk thistle is a very good approach in dealing with pet's health issues.

Comments about NHV Milk Thistle for Dog Liver Disease:

Our 8 yr old Chocolate Lab Kona needed to have some dental surgery and before doing the procedure the vet ordered some blood work. The blood tests revealed her liver enzymes were off. Following the surgery he gave her a round of antibiotics and wanted to re-test her to see where she was at. This time the liver markers were very bad. Following a few more tests the vet diagnosed her with liver disease. Between the dental surgery and now being on several medications (antibiotics, prednisone, and another medication) she became pretty depressed was barely eating and started sleeping in our closet (which was not normal for her). Getting her to eat was a daily ordeal! she was losing so much weight and starting to look frail. A very frighting experience for us. After doing some web research I stumbled across this product and decided to give it a try... why not, nothing else was working and we were wasting money buying new foods all the time that she still would not eat. After about a week of giving her the milk thistle she had lots more energy and was starting to eat. She has been on medications, plus the milk thistle for a few weeks now, and doing great!! Eating again... gaining the weight back... thank goodness and her energy has also been restored. We are so thrilled to have our girl back to good health. Also the milk thistle is very easy to administer (much easier than tablets or capsules we need to give her), she seems to like the taste of the milk thistle and looks forward to her daily dose! thank you PetWellBeing.com

Comments about NHV Milk Thistle for Dog Liver Disease:

This product is so easy to administer its the answer to giving medicine to small, older dogs that don't swallow pills well at all.

We simply add the desired number of drops to our dogs dinner each evening and they never know they are taking medicine.

The best part of this product is it has substantially changed our dogs demeanor. The improvement has been exponential.

Comments about NHV Milk Thistle for Dog Liver Disease:

When taking my 11 year old dog in for surgery, the vet did pre-surgery lab work where the liver enzymes were at 660 units. This is way above the upper normal limit of around 215 and the surgery was postponed. The vet recommended Denamarin, a prescription medication created based on the effective properties of Milk Thistle. I did purchases these; but, after further research on what high liver enzymes might indicate and the VERY safe properties of milk thistle, I decided to take a three pronged approach to trying to treat the high liver enzymes. First, use of the Denamarin as indicated in the evenings; second, reduce my dog's high meat intake - and eliminating beef; and third, using the NHV Milk Thistle once a day in the mornings (note- since I was using the Denamarin, I only used the NHV once a day and I also watched my dog's stool closely to ensure I did not need to cut back on the Milk Thistle).
I went back to my vet 16 days later for another liver enzyme test to see if things were going in the right direction or if I needed to take my dog to a specialist. The lab results returned with a drop of 250 points - that's 15 pts/day! My vet was surprised since she had used the Denamarin before and had not seen such dramatic results. I have continued with this program for another month, and will go in for more liver testing soon. However, I do not need to take another test to know my dog feels better. She is less lethargic, ready to play much more often, and is panting less.
My take away is that Milk Thistle is a very effective liver cleaning agent. NHV's product is effective and less than half the cost of the prescription pill and it has been so simple to just add to her morning food. She doesn't even seem to notice it is there. Even after I find her liver enzymes are normal, due to her age, I will continue to give her the NHV Milk Thistle to maintain her liver health. Great Product - I would highly recommend it.

Our little Baci was given anti inflammatory pills due to a hind leg problem. These pills intoxicated his liver to the point where he had to be hospitalized. He was put on a drip for 6 days, whereby he refused to eat. We were devasted to see our baby deteriorate daily. My husband read about Milk Thistle at which point we were willing to try anything to make him eat. It was a miracle. After the 3rd day of intake, he started eating and was full of life. We strongly recommend Milk Thistle.

Comments about NHV Milk Thistle for Dog Liver Disease:

Chase liver enzymes were really high.. We put him on Milk Thistle. For about a year now and his liver enzymes are back down to normal. Plus his coat is silky smooth.. He will be on Milk Thistle for the rest of his life. Highly recommend for dogs that have high liver enzymes and surgery is not an option.
Chase is one happy pup....
