My 12 yr old doberman has been refusing food for over a year. He has lost a lot of weight. We had run numerous tests, blood work, X-rays, ultrasound and so on. I know that all the reviews listed below, have shown how many dogs improved with using Milk Thistle. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks, after the fact. To say that your product works is a very big understatement. Our Lhasa, Moochie, lasted over a year, with using your product. He passed away on November 6, 2010, after a full and happy life. I wrote a review earlier, after using Milk Thistle for only a short time. Since then, we have had countless walks, holidays, and blessings, that we thought would not take place. His quality of life was high, even at his advanced age. He was 18 (yes 18), when he passed. This was unheard at one point in time, let alone now, in this present day.

Over a year ago, my then 13 year old dog was diagnosed with liver disease. Medication seemed to keep it in check for awhile but liver panel numbers started to go up and up (over 600 in April). My dog suffers from hemolytic anemia although he hasn't had an attack in over two years he has had four of them all requiring a transfusion. He is taking 25mg twice a week of Atopica (cyclosporine). My vet recommended milk thistle when my 13-yr-old bichon's liver started failing. He did blood work on him and let me know that the indicators were that Andy wasn't going to be around long with this liver problem. I got it and little Andy started perking up in the first month and now after 6 months he hops and plays and is acting younger than 13! I had no idea this product could do that for him! Before, he slept all the time, didn't want to take his usual short walks, and couldn't seem to hear very well - we thought he was going deaf. We found out about Milk Thistle from a friend. She said it was recommended for liver ailments after I let her know our vet had given our cocker spaniel "Bailey" only 3-4 months to live. I am just AMAZED!!!! If you are like me...and say oh of course they are going to say it works! I am really hard to convince that something really works like they say it does....BOY WAS I WRONG THIS TIME!!! My 9 yr old Yorkie (which is my baby with fur) he is my life. Since he has been 1 1/2 he has had multiple problems beyond I think any dog. I have spent seriously 24,000.00 in vet and hospital bills! Everyone telling me I was crazy! I just could not let him go! I just recently took him to the emergency vet because he was gasping for air and his stomach was blown up so big I thought it would pop. The vet. didn't know what was the matter with my Shitzu.. so, I took it upon myself and got milk thistle for dogs!!! Within 2 days, he was able to walk. I found your product too late. Vets do not have this type product on the 'systematic' get well programs for dogs. My dog was not given one thing other than meds that were not good for his liver. My 3 year old beagle walker hound charlie was diagnosed with epilepsy at one year old. He has been on a high dose of phenobarbital since and recently showed some liver complications. He was also diagnosed with IBD. My vet actually recommended milk thistle, so I found it much more affordable at petwellbeing. He is back to his normal beagle self. I started my 3 pound yorkie on this after discovering that her bloodwork was indicating liver issues. Olivia has been on it for 3 weeks. She is eating better and is leaving the grass alone. Our 3 yo GSD had an elevated ALT and was told to go on SAMe and other items from the vet. I did a bit of research and found that milk thistle is an effective remedy. We bought it from this site and gave it a try. During his semi-annual comprehensive exam, we found that his ALT was WAY lower than the previous results. I would recommend you give this product a try before spending a ton of cash at the vet.

Our King Charles is one month shy of 15 and has been using Milk Thistle for 3 weeks. His liver enzymes were over 1200 which is what prompted us to try Milk Thistle. My 14 yr. old MinPin had a series of problems and has been on antibiotics off & on for quite awhile. She weighs just a little more than 5 lbs. Her blood work showed her liver values to be just over the upper edge of normal and I didn't want that to worsen. So I ordered this product in hopes it would at least maintain. Both my Labs take milk thistle twice daily. My female Lab mix has cancer and the milk thistle helps her liver purify the toxins that become a byproduct of normal high protein food. My male AKC lab has Cushings disease. He is getting Supraglan and Hearty Health as well. He developed pancreatitis from an imbalance in his thyroid earlier this year and I took the chance of starting milk thistle from the health food store. Well, OTC people brands are alcohol based and Canine Milk Thistle is glycerin based so I feel better I'm not introducing grain alcohol to his weakened liver. The price of Canine Milk Thistle is a little better than the people stuff and lasts him at 125 pounds, 2 months per bottle. A bargain for what it would cost me at the vet. His last vet bill was over $1300 US dollars. He could have gotten a life time supply for that.

I started giving Milk Thistle to George, my "runt sheltie" after some pretty bad stomach problems, vomiting, not wanting to eat, especially in the morning. The vet thought he had a liver shunt, but turned out he just has a small liver. He is also prone to pancreatitis. I had been giving Milk Thistle to him for several years and thought I'd try him going without it. He'd been eating well and had gained weight. After a week of not giving him Milk Thistle in his food he has thrown up three times. He's going back on it. It just seems to make a difference.

One month ago the "emergency" veterinary hospital sent us home with our beloved friend saying it would only be a short time. He was gravely ill with his liver enzymes off the charts. My beautiful girl, Molly, had always had high liver values. We tried dozens of things to get her better. She was diagnosed with thyroid problems and went on daily medication. After 4 months of a prescribed medication and no improvement in the blood liver tests, I started the Milk Thistle and within a couple weeks all blood tests were better and she is more active. My 12 year old schnauzer was diagnosed on 8/30/2009 with hepatic and adrenal neoplasia after I noticed him being slightly bloated and less energetic than before. The vet very coldly stated "He's terminal. Treatment is pointless and I'd say he's got about 3 months". Within 2 weeks,he'd lost weight, his coat turned brownish (as opposed to it's light salt and pepper color) and his stool turned yellow due to disruption of bile secretion (per his vet). Immediately I began searching for holistic treatments when I came across this website. Our 8 year old Schnauzer has Auto-Immune-Hemalytic-anemia since January 2009. Her liver functions were off the chart in a bad way. She also has sludge in her gallbladder. After taking milk thistle for about 30 days, her liver tests are back to the high side of normal. We do not yet know if her gallbladder has improved, but will be doing an ultra-sound in the next 30 days. The test results came back, and the news was not good. Our 16 year old Lhasa, Moochie, had either, liver failure or liver cancer. A biospy could kill him, so we were against that. I looked up milk thistle for humans and soon found out its use in animals. I ordered your product and began giving it to him right away (according to your instructions. There was nothing negative about using the product). My wife and I felt that we had nothing to loose.
When Mooch became sick, he lost five pounds in about five weeks. The illness was clearly progressing. As a family, we felt blessed that he has lived so long and were at peace with the remaining time he had left. After about two and 1/2 weeks, I took him back to our vet for a follow-up. To our surprise, we discovered that he gained back two pounds!! Your product has clearly made a difference.
During this time, he has never lost his spirit for living, and now he seems to being enjoying life again. The skip in his step, the tail wag, etc, all have special meaning now. I am using this product on our 9 1/2 year old working labrador. He has had a host of problems over the past 9 months which include a fractured pelvis from a car accident and had lost almost 14 lbs due to gall bladder problems, which in turn took a toll on his liver function. All of which caused behavioral issues too.

After several months on lots of meds and "let's try this" treatments, I saw minimal improvement so I searched for a better more natural alternative. I've only been using this product for about 3 weeks and haven't had another blood workup yet, so I don't know if it's technically done anything for him yet...BUT I do see that he's holding his weight, he has a hunger to eat (although still somewhat picky about what he wants to eat) and he must like the taste of the milk thistle because he doesn't try to refuse it (which is a huge plus).

I will update again after the next vet visit/blood work up.

My dog is the love of my life. She is an almost 13 year old border collie husky mix. I was faced with having to have her put down as she has severe arthritis and the medication was putting too much stress on her liver. Our then five-year old Schnoodle was diagnosed with an internal liver shunt about 16 months ago. He was frighteningly lethargic - I nearly had to drag him out for a walk - he lost a lot of weight and had other classic symptoms of a liver shunt that affected his brain because of toxins in his blood --- pacing, temporary bouts of blindness, unexplained bouts of aggression. The vet was very supportive, but pretty much told us that there wasn't anything he could do other than prescribe Lactulose so that the toxins bypassing his liver would be excreted,therefore minimizing the symptoms. He said surgery with a specialist was an option. I hadn't heard sucess stories about liver shunt surgery, not to mention it would be tough on the dog and VERY expensive, with very limited chance of success (particularly on an internal liver shunt). We decided against surgery, and I researched and found canine milk thistle. Between the lactulose and the milk thistle, he's like a new dog again. He went from a low of 12 lbs. when he was sick to a high of 17 lbs! His best weight ever, and he appears as healthy and active as ever. I posted a while back about how well our Cocker Spaniel Maggie was doing after we gave this product a last ditch try to save her. On 4-22-09 the vet told us she had 4-6 weeks to live; her ALP was 1133 and ALT 514. Within a week she was doing better and by 5-27-09 when we took her back to our vet the numbers had fell dramatically ALP 482, ALT 291. He was amazed. He said if it drops another 10% it has to be working. On 6-26-09 ALP 439 and ALT 252. Not down to normal yet, but she is back to her old self and we are very happy to have found this product.

I went online to do a little research on the subject and came across your site and product, Milk Thistle. I decided it was worth a try so I ordered your product and another company's similar product. We tried both, but your product was easier to administer and we stuck with it. I am pleased to say that after 4 weeks, we are shocked and so was the vet this week. Upon reading her lab work, he asked my wife, "what was that product you were using!" "her blood work has improved dramatically".

I am usually a skeptic, but the results are unbelievable and there is nothing else to explain it. Maggie is back to her old self again. I wish I had the actual blood count information, but will post that the next time after she sees the vet here in 2 weeks. Thanks again.

Like so many others in the reviews, I thought my 12 year old Shitzsu was not going to be around much longer. But from the first day of use my Gracie began to show signs of getting better. I had reached a point where I had to carry her out to go potty. She could barely walk. My vet had no other options than getting a liver biopsy and/or sonogram but after already spending $500 I couldn't afford to go that route. We were planning a simple surgery to have our 9 1/2 year old female chocolate lab, Eclair's, lypoma removed. The vet ran the routine pre-op blood work. Her liver enzymes came back extremely high. At the vet's suggestion we put her on Sam-E. After 1 month, her ALP score dropped by 10 points. That didn't seem like much to me being as the number was 1226. The next step was the L/D food. The next test came back with even higher numbers. The vet suggested we add Ursodial. I told him I had been doing my own research and asked about milk thistle. He checked his medical books regarding a possible interaction with anything our girl was currently taking. There was no need for any concern. I started her on it immediately. I am thrilled to tell you that after just ONE MONTH her ALP numbers were down by over 400 points and the other numbers decreased significantly as well. We are currently on our 2nd bottle of the tincture and I have just ordered a 3rd. We go back for more tests in June and I hope to report even better news!! I use this product in daily bases for my dog because have liver problems after 30 days they re-test the blood and the results were excellent they detect NO problems with the liver. This product is excellent with very positive results.

I was so desperate to find anything to help my 9 yr old female lab's liver which was in failure. Just had Duke's liver enzymes checked

His ALTs are well within normal range now - down 62
His Alkaline Phosphatase are still high but down 688 from 1307 in December. Normal is 5-131!
His GGT is down from 33 to 22 but still high - normal is 1-12.

We are thrilled. We knew it in the way he was acting alert and playful again, but it's nice to have confirmation! I am totally a believer and will (and have already) recommended this product.

Our dog, Alice, had been diagnosed with dangerously high liver enzyme levels. We couldn't afford the medicine or further diagnostic procedures. Our 8 year old golden retriever has had alarming rising liver enzymes (in one month, one level rose 3x it's normal level) - due to 7 years of phenobarbitol use for a seizure disorder which finally went toxic. We have been titrating down the phenobarb with only an "nth" of values lowering. But, they were lowering slightly.

He was listless and ataxic - stumbling down the stairs and staring off into the distance - not himself at all. He's on a few other liver function meds, but still the same lethargy and we were very concerned.

I did some searching and questioning with other golden owners and they suggested milk thistle. As it's natural it couldn't hurt and wouldn't react to the other meds he's on.

I found this site and ordered immediately. Within 2 days - honestly, 2 days - he's improving remarkably. He's alert and hasn't stumbled down the stairs once since he's started it. I'm thinking it must taste fresh or maybe a little flowery judging from the lack of odor and he certainly doesn't mind this.

Our Rottweielr was diagnosed with liver disease with only a small chance of survival. I found a wonderful site that recommended milk thistle along with a liver cleansing diet. To this day our vet says that our dog shoud "truely" not be here. She will 13 this year. I would recommend this product to everyone.

My beautiful 15 year old Papillon suddenly stopped eating and dropped from 9lbs. down to 6lbs over 3 weeks time. The vet did multiple blood tests for the normal suspected illnesses and found nothing. As I continued to pay out almost $800 for tests, I read about this Canine Milk Thistle product. Although still a bit finicky about his food, within a day of his first dose my dog began eating again.
